Meet a Real Mufti: Future Greek Catholic Theologists Gathered to Learn About Islam in Ivano-Frankivsk

On 4 April, students of Ivano-Frankivsk Ivan Zolotousty Academy had an opportunity to meet Sheikh Said Ismagilov, Mufti of Religious Administration of Muslims of Ukraine “Umma”, and Mr. Ameen Al-Kasem, Head of Lviv Muhammad Asad Islamic Cultural Centre. The event was held in terms of the Academy’s “Meet Interesting People” cycle.

The guests were welcomed by members of Administration, who thanked them for a generous gift for the Academy’s Library, namely 26 items of books on Religious Studies and Islam, along with a Ukrainian translation of the meanings of the Holy Qur’an.

Sheikh Said spoke about the basics of Islam, history of its origin and advancement on the Ukrainian terrain; he spoke of modern Ukrainian Muslims and their input in the State’s development; of Muslims participation in the Revolution of dignity, developing intercultural and interfaith dialogue, and fruitful cooperation between the Ukrainian Muslims and different Churches and Religious Organisations. There also was a feature length topic of Muslims serving both in the Ukrainian Military and as Military Chaplains.

Mr. Al-Kasem, on his part, spoke about the activities carried out by Islamic Cultural Centres, in particular, Lviv ICC headed by him now. He spoke about Ukrainian Muslims’ charitable and social work, and went into more detail when speaking about the educational projects implemented.
